Ladders

I am scared of ladders. They are the things that you fall off and injure yourself.

Everyone needs to work safely whenever they use a ladder outside.

• Always stand a ladder on level, solid ground.

• Always slope the ladder at about 15 degrees from the vertical: that is, put the base of the ladder protruding at least 1 to 1 ½ metres out from the wall.

• Always have the ladder protruding at least 1 metre above the guttering or whatever it is leaning against.

• Always tie the ladder with rope to problematic surfaces like trees. Keep 2-3 metre lengths of rope with the ladder for this purpose.

Better still, buy a long handled lopper (aka a pole-pruner) so that you can prune high in the air while you stand on the ground.

STAY SAFE
