Can I Plant A New Lemon Tree Where The Previous Tree Died?

Nature of problem: 
I have a very old lemon tree that has been growing in the lawn but it has now died. Can I plant another lemon tree in the same place or would that not be best? The tree had the lawn cut back from the trunk about 50cm all the way around.

 

Type of Plant (if known): 
lisbon lemoan (with thorns)

current lemon tree has no leaves left on it. Ants have been climbing all over it.

Answer: Hi Ann,  The lemon died of old age: 20 years is the average lifespan of most citrus.  Plant a new one in the same spot by all means, but dig some potting mix into the soil and fork it over thoroughly first.  Don
