Hi we are looking for something that will grow up the sides and along a balcony of a kids treehouse. Would love lots of bright flowers, no thorns and low allergy. Love the look of a bougainvillea but I’m not sure if there are any thornless varieties as the thorns are obviously not great for the kids. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!
Thanks so much
Rebecca

Answer: What about bougainvilleas, if they grow well in Torquay. Bougainvilleas only produce thorns if they get water & fertiliser. Water them after planting each week for a month or two, then leave them to fend for themselves. This usually means HEAPS of flowers and no thorns.  Go to Burkesbackyard.com.au and then to our YouTube channel to find our bougainvillea stories which explain it all at length.  Don
