Don’s Tips: Vegies Now

Vegies Now

Vegies Now

It is still time to plant kale which is a variety of cabbage, broccoli, cabbage, Asian greens, spinach, silverbeet, peas of all kinds, lettuce, broadbeans and carrots.

Asian greens are probably the easiest and best of the lot.

Place half egg shells around all of your cabbage family plants to deter cabbage white butterflies.  You can spray with the very safe Dipel as well.

Keep greens growing rapidly.  Do this by fertilizing every one or two weeks with any liquid fertilizer  like Thrive or Aquasol or you could use chicken manure such as Dynamic Lifter.

For a surface mulch on vegie gardens and rose gardens, and under citrus trees, I prefer lucerne hay or pea straw.  Both suppress weeds while improving the general soil quality.

Having said that, horse manure also makes a superb mulch around vegies, roses etc.

… And it’s usually free outside the stables at your local racecourse.

Get the vegies roaring away NOW before they slow down for winter.

Hooroo!
