Vegies Going To Seed

Q: Why did my lettuces, silverbeet or cabbages go to seed?

A: It is so frustrating when your lettuces, silverbeet, cabbages or spinach go straight to seed and produce few leaves.

This is caused by incorrect or no fertilizing. Plants need nitrogen to produce lots of leaves. So fertilise all leaf vegies and all young vegies of any sort with a liquid fertilizer such as chicken manure, Nitrosol or Thrive. Once the non-leafy vegies (tomatoes, carrots, beetroot, peas, etc.) are about half grown, do not fertilise them any more.

BUT leaf vegies need fertilizing every 2-3 weeks right up until harvest.

Hooroo, Don.
