Don’s Tips: Paths

Paths

Paths are very very important in gardens.

Without paths your garden will be seriously damaged by foot traffic. Goat tracks will soon form in the lawn in particular.

All animals, dogs, cats, horses and people are genetically programmed and always follow the same path. This leads to awful lawn damage and many people drag or stomp their feet unconsciously – and this does extra damage.

So, put in stepping-stones or concrete paths to prevent the damage. Meaningless curves in paths will encourage people to take short-cuts, so ALWAYS bend the path around something: a boulder, a garden bed or a tree.

You can make your own concrete stepping-stones inside wooden formwork or you can buy split stone pavers.

Put in a path – it really sets a garden off!
