Fertilising pot plants is absolutely essential for good results.
Modern potting mixes are not soil-based – they are made of compost. So they need a constant supply of fertiliser: a little bit each day BUT more in the warm months and less in the cooler months.
This is why controlled or slow release fertilisers are absolutely essential in potting mixes: they release fertiliser ON DEMAND as the plant needs it for up to 12 months.
Put simply, modern potting mixes simply don’t perform well without controlled release fertilisers: they are mutually essential.
Combined with a controlled release fertiliser and a wetting agent, Premium mixes are as good as you can get. And they are much cheaper in the long run.
