Mulching

Mulching

With summer fast approaching, you need to think about mulching the garden.

Mulch saves on water bills and reduces work in the garden by over 50%.  The work reduction is due to the fact that well-applied mulches stop weeds from growing.

Mulches can be anything that you fancy:  wood chips, pinebark, leaf litter, compost, lucerne hay, or pea straw.

I don’t love pinebark as it produces oily resinous material that can damage plants’ roots. However, COMPOSTED pinebark is fine.  This is a dark brown, earthy colour and a really good mulch.

Pea straw and lucerne hay are great mulches for the vegie garden, but they break down in 2 or 3 months, so you will then need to re-mulch.

Think about mulches, a good mulch can revolutionise your garden.
