Fuchsias

The other day I noticed some stunning fuchsias in a chain store. Perhaps they are coming back into fashion. They should because their flowers are spectacularly beautiful in both shape and colours. Fuchsia flowers hang down like bells, but the top bit of the flower blows upwards as well. Modern very fluffy and ruffled double fuchsias are difficult to grow, even if the colours attract you. Go for the older, simpler varieties with less petals – these are as tough as old boots: they don’t die. But do go out and look for fuchsias, they are colourful, elegant and very useful as they grow and flower. The flower colours include pink, red, purple, mauve or white – a great mix of colours. …and that name again: fuchsias. Hooroo, Don.
