As the hot weather builds even hotter, it’s a good idea to check out your pot plants.

Our sun in Australia is almost double the strength of sunlight in Europe or the USA. So many plants actually get sunburn in Australia – especially Japanese maples and other deciduous trees.

So, you might consider moving some tubs into partial shade in summer. Most plants, even ferns, azaleas and orchids will tolerate full sun in winter, but not now.

The sun also over-heats pots causing the potting mix to dry out and the roots to burn.

So get a trolley from the hardware store (every home needs one for heavy lifting) and move some of your plants out of the burning sun – especially if the plants are on concrete or brick pavers.

… It’s worth the effort.

Hooroo, Don.
