According to nutrition scientist, Joanna McMillan-Price, what you eat has a direct impact on how you look. By eating well you are feeding your skin, your hair and your nails, and you’ll look fantastic.

Vitamins

If you suffer from a skin condition such as psoriasis, eczema or even acne, upping your vitamin E intake can sometimes help. Butter, fortified margarines, whole milk and egg yolks are great sources of vitamin E. Beta-carotene, found in orange and dark green leafy vegetables, can be split and made into vitamin E for use by the body. Vitamin C is also important. Fruit and vegetables such as citrus, kiwi fruit, broccoli and spinach are very rich in vitamin C.

Minerals

In order for your skin, hair and nails to look their best, minerals such as zinc and copper are crucial. Seafood (particularly oysters), red meat and wholegrain cereals are good sources of zinc. Copper occurs in many of the same foods, so you can get an adequate amount by simply including these foods in your diet.

Fats

Most people have heard of omega 3 fats in relation to heart disease. In fact, these could also help skin conditions. We also need omega 6 fats, which are found primarily in nut, seed and plant oils.
