Passionfruit

We’re looking at some old husbands’ tales, the sort of things that old men have spread for generations and everybody believes them, but they’re simply not true.

Today’s furphy is that all plants need tender loving care. Most plants like to be looked after with water and fertiliser but some don’t. If you live in a temperate area, one of the great plants to grow is the passionfruit or granadilla as they call it in some areas. Beautiful plants but everyone will tell you, you have to fuss over them, that they’re difficult plants to grow.

Complete myth! Passionfruit are a ‘treat ‘em mean, keep ‘em keen’ type of plant. Don took us to a dry bush land area where it gets no watering, no fertilising and the soil quality is very poor. It seems a possum must have eaten the fruit of a passionfruit, defecated the seed into the bush land and Hey Presto! The passionfruit plant is roaring away, not bad for a neglected, unwatered, unfertilised plant.
