I would like to grow either rhodendrons or azaelea’s along and arond its base, is this possible? I have very little growing in my front yard everything seems to die, I have put it down to the jacaranda tree/s. I have always had success with my day lillies but even they are dying. I love the jacaranda tress and would like to keep them I also would like to fill my garden up with big flowering shrubs. Any help would be greatly appreciated or directions on where I can look to help improve my soil or make a nice garden.

Answer:

Hi Paula,  It is almost certain that the plants underneath the Jacaranda need water. Instal a black plastic watering system with a cheap tap timer connected. Select locally sold plants for this area. Sadly, neither azaleas nor rhododendrons will flourish in Kalgoorlie WA. Once your plants get water all should be OK. In Kalgoorlie, Autumn is the best time to plant. BUT IF YOU WANT SUCCESS, ASK FOR ALL DETAILS AT YOUR LOCAL NURSERY.
