Don’s Tips: Retaining Walls

Retaining Walls

Many gardens have areas of useless sloping land which is too steep to use.

Well even the ancient Incas knew about terracing!

You can construct some retaining walls out of concrete blocks or treated pine sleepers.

You should research retaining walls on the net so that you learn how to build them so that they don’t fall over. They need underground foundations!

Home handy-people should only build retaining walls that they can step over – i.e. only to around 60-70cm high.

Backfill behind the retaining walls with gravel at the bottom & bulk soil from a nearby landscape supply company on top, allowing for some settling.

All of a sudden you may have more than doubled the useable space in your backyard… with your own mini Machu Picchu!
