New Millennium House
The owner of this fabulous, ultra modern beach house has combined vibrant colour, cutting edge design and the latest technology to create a home for the new millennium. Peta worked closely with designers and architects when planning her fantasy home, but she did all the landscaping herself. A few years ago she ran a landscaping business and a florist shop, which explains her adventurous garden design and use of exterior colour. This futuristic residence is really unique when it comes to comfort, fun and ease of living.
Design features
Glass is used very extensively in the garden. A lap pool is walled off with glass, magnificent waterfront views are seen to their full advantage though glass balustrading, and a glass staircase leads up to a glass bridge across the pool.
The colour scheme is bold and dramatic. Interior paint colours were computer matched to carpets, fabrics and glass finishes. Vibrant blue and yellow colours dominate the exterior walls, and the swimming pool is a custom made ‘Apple Green’ colour.
Full automation. Security systems, blinds, lights, airconditioning, irrigation, sound systems and home theatre systems are operated with wall-mounted keypads and touch panel remote controls.
The kitchen is bright, cheerful and fun to be in. It’s full of mod cons, including: A round steel plate set into the benchtop. Turn it on and it slowly changes shape and becomes a wok!
An underbench range hood, which pops up when needed.
Ice water and boiling water from a single tap.
A cappuccino machine.
A dumb waiter to bring shopping up from the front door.
The wine cellar is thermostatically controlled and houses over three and a half thousand bottles of wine. Surprisingly, it also doubles as an unusual but very elegant dining room.
