Along the east coast of Australia in particular there has been a wetter season after the drought. This can lead to some problems especially an increase in the number of insects (flies, mosquitoes and sand flies) in summer. So don’t leave lots of water lying around the house where mosquitoes could breed. The humid weather could also mean a bad year for fungal root diseases. Protect any plants that are prone to these diseases with a preventative spray or soil drench of Phosacid 200 (5L costs $35). Environmentally it’s a relatively safe spray and it should stop plants dying of root rot. For leaf fungal diseases a broad-spectrum and environmental safe spray is Yates Mancozeb Plus (100g costs $10.70).
