Nature of problem: 
I have little gem magnolias around my pool. Pool is fresh water with no chlorine. Since we put them in we have lost 4 of them and I am now loosing another. All plants have died the same way, leaves turn yellow and just drop off branches start to look disease ridden

 

Type of Plant (if known): 
Little Gem Magnolias

 

Symptoms of Plant Illness (please try NOT to diagnose your problems yourself): 
Yellow leaves, leaves wilt, let seems to start from the centre of the tree, tree just looks disease ridden

 

Soil Type (e.g. sandy, clay or loam) OR Potting Mix Type: 
Sandy soil

 

How often do you water the plant:
Every 3rd day

 

How many hours of sunlight does the plant get each day:
At least 6 hours

 

What type of plant is it:
Little gem magnolia

 

How long since you planted it:
3 years ago

 

Have you fertilised? If so, with what and when:
Yes not sure what with as landscaper did the last one about 3 months ago

 

Is the plant indoors or outdoors: 
Outdoors

 

Is the plant in a pot or in the ground: 
Ground

 

What other treatments have you given the plant: 
Season, fongerid and anti rot

Plants are elevated with good drainage

 

Answer:  Hi Leanne,  Little Gems are VERY VERY HARDY. I doubt that disease is the cause here. It is likely to be soil problems, lack of water, salt winds, etc. You need a site inspection by a qualified horticulturist. S/he needs to dig holes and poke around a lot. Hopefully the local nursery can help out.   Don
