Agressive Lorikeet

Nature of problem: 
I have a beautiful scaly breast lorrikeet about 7 months young, the problem is when she comes out her cage she is her playful self and lately when she is on my hand she ruffles her feathers and trys to get into position to bonk my hand..

Answer: Hi Jeanette,  This is called puberty. It is far more common for males to do this but some females get a surge of testosterone too. If it is a female, you can probably expect some aggression towards your partner and kids etc in a few month’s time. This girl will by that stage regard you as “her man”. The key thing to do then is to ask everyone to NEVER pull away from a nip as this will create an aggressive monster. Don’t punish her either. Hopefully in time her hormones will settle down and she will become a much better family member.  Don
