‘Environmenta’ is a regional sculpture exhibition held each year by sculptor, Jane Hanson. Jane realised that there are very few opportunities for sculptors, installation artists and landscape designers to show larger works outside a gallery situation, so three years ago, she decided to provide that opportunity at her Moss Vale property. Both emerging and established artists have created works especially for this beautiful outdoor venue. This years exhibition, ‘Environmenta 2001’, is on the theme of Colonisation.

Just before the opening of the exhibition, Jane gave Don a guided tour of her Mediterranean-style garden. It features dry stone walls built by her son, and drought-resistant plants in a blue/purple/white colour scheme. The overall theme of the buildings is Santa Fe: earthy and organic. They include a rendered brick house, a strawbale double storey studio and a large strawbale building which houses the stables, garage and machinery shed. On the day of our visit, the works of art were in place ready for the exhibition, so Don was able to speak to some of the artists and have some fun previewing their works.
