Many people think that wallpaper is old-fashioned, expensive and difficult to hang. Tara Dennis visited one of Australia’s leading wallpaper designers, Bryan Fitzgerald, who dispelled a few of those myths.
Myth: wallpaper is old-fashioned
Bryan explained that in the 70s people wallpapered everything, even their bathrooms! This inappropriate use turned everyone off wallpaper, as did successful marketing campaigns by paint companies during the 80s. However, wallpaper is definitely back in fashion and is making a huge comeback in the design world. The latest wallpaper designs range from traditional to textured and very modern. They often combine well with paint and make fabulous feature walls.
Myth: wallpaper is expensive
Bryan told Tara that when it comes to cost, there is not all that much difference between wallpaper and paint.
Myth: wallpaper is difficult to hang
A professional wallpaper hanger can wallpaper a room in about the same time it would take to paint. If the wallpaper you choose features a complex pattern, use a professional wallpaper hanger. When pattern matching is not required you can easily do the job yourself.
