Ralph Update
If you thought that there was something missing from this week’s program, you were right. Ralph, the Pug, has had an accident with one of his eyes, and he is now in the care of veterinary surgeon, Dr. Rob Zammit. We crossed to Rob during the show to check on his condition.
The prognosis
Rob explained that Pugs and other dog breeds with squashed-in faces do get eye problems. In fact, if there’s any sort of pressure or undue trauma the eyeball can actually pop right out of its socket. That’s what’s happened to Ralph, and Rob has had to cut open his eye rims and replace the eye. Ralph will be okay and he won’t lose his eye, but this is a problem that should be addressed by dog breeders in the future.
