Rudi’s Fountains
Don talked to sculptor Rudi Jass about some of the stylish water features he has created. Rudi’s designs are elegant and timeless – he does not like overly crafted pieces because he thinks they quickly become dated. His fountains have clean, modern lines, and they look great even when they are not running. They are also very low maintenance because the water runs through the frames themselves, so there is no piping to block up. The water features are made from stainless steel which makes them strong and robust, although using this material is work intensive. After welding, each piece is ground, polished, and chemically treated to prevent corrosion. Rudi tailors his fountains to suit the customer’s requirements, even down to the sound that the water makes. Some can be too noisy in certain small courtyard situations, but just the thing in a heavy traffic area. Others run almost silently.
