Graham Pizzey
Don had some sad news to announce on this week’s program. Leading bird expert Graham Pizzey, who was featured on Burke’s Backyard and also wrote regularly for the Burke’s Backyard Magazine, recently passed away after a battle with cancer.
Graham was highly respected among both amateur and professional ornithologists. He had incredible insight into the behaviour of birds and was also able to communicate that knowledge to other people – both through his keen observations and his magnificent photography. His ‘Field Guide to the Birds of Australia’ is the definitive guide to Australian native birds. He was also well known as the author of other books and newspaper articles about Australian wildlife. He was a Member of the Order of Australia and a recipient of the Australian Natural History Medallion.
