While the world is hurtling towards the Year 2000, Jim Pike has met some people still rocking in the 1950s. John and Dell Power have built a 1950s replica diner in their backyard where they spend time grooving with their friends.
The diner has memorabilia from the 1950s with highlights such as a car boot converted to a seat for two. The Powers have collected many of the pieces at swap meetings, and have travelled far in search of them. Swap meetings are held in many different locations and are usually advertised in car magazines and through car clubs. They are a great place to purchase a variety of memorabilia. Other pieces have been added outside, such as palm trees and petrol pumps. To complete the retro look they also have some great 1960s cars such as the fuel guzzling 1960 Impala Sports coupe. All these things create that rock ‘n’ roll atmosphere for John, Dell and their friends to groove in.
