Don put together a colourful hanging basket using ‘Cutie Cat Merlot’ from the new Cutie Cats series of pansies. Follow these steps to create your own pansy basket
- Cover the base of the basket with a good layer of sphagnum moss. Bring the moss one-third of the way up the sides. Cover the moss base with some wire fly screen. This will help to keep the potting mix in place. Add a layer of potting mix to a depth of 5cm. Use a premium potting mix that contains water-holding crystals.
- Plant a row of pansies. Wrap the pansies (both flowers and foliage) lightly in aluminium foil to prevent damage to them when you put them through the wire sides of the basket.
- Tuck a large handful of moss around the shoulders of each plant so that no gaps remain.
- Add more potting mix and bring the moss wall two-thirds up the side of the basket or to the height where the next row of pansies is to be planted.
- Add more moss to the wall and add more potting mix. Plant some pansies in the top of the basket. Water and add more moss and soil if needed. (Tip: if you haven
