Eye-level pansies!

Don put together a colourful hanging basket using ‘Cutie Cat Merlot’ from the new Cutie Cats series of pansies. Follow these steps to create your own pansy basket

  1. Cover the base of the basket with a good layer of sphagnum moss. Bring the moss one-third of the way up the sides. Cover the moss base with some wire fly screen. This will help to keep the potting mix in place. Add a layer of potting mix to a depth of 5cm. Use a premium potting mix that contains water-holding crystals.
  2. Plant a row of pansies. Wrap the pansies (both flowers and foliage) lightly in aluminium foil to prevent damage to them when you put them through the wire sides of the basket.
  3. Tuck a large handful of moss around the shoulders of each plant so that no gaps remain.
  4. Add more potting mix and bring the moss wall two-thirds up the side of the basket or to the height where the next row of pansies is to be planted.
  5. Add more moss to the wall and add more potting mix. Plant some pansies in the top of the basket. Water and add more moss and soil if needed. (Tip: if you haven
