Yes, there are some totally delicious hibiscus plants which you can grow in your garden, and in the March 2010 issue of Burke’s Backyard magazine, on sale now everywhere, Peter Valder tells you all about these three plants:
• okra (a vegie which is great in soups especially)
• rosella (great for making cordials and jams)
• and a native hibiscus which you can buy in a jar at your local bottle shop and pop into a glass of champagne! That’s it pictured here: our bottle, which contains about a dozen flower buds in syrup, cost us around $10 at our local Beer Wine Spirits outlet, but lots of liquor retailers stock them. You can find out more about them at www.wildhibiscus.com
Also in the March issue of Burke’s Backyard magazine, Rhonda Hetzel has the recipe for her husband Hanno’s favourite Rosella Cordial. It’s easy to make and a great money-saver if you have a rosella bush in your backyard.
