January and February are tough times for many pets: the heat of mid summer can be very cruel for pets out in the open or under corrugated iron.

So, inspect pets’ water dishes twice a day during January and February. Make sure that pets have a shady area nearby so that they can get out of the sun.

Don’t use corrugated iron for roofs on chook pens, dog areas or for horse stables.

There are insulated types of metal roofing such as Solarspan that provide cool shade for pets and people. They cost a bit more, but you will be glad that you spent the money.

In an emergency use water:

Put a sprinkler on a hot corrugated iron roof or plunge a too-hot dog into a tub of water.

Think of pets on hot days… please.

Hooroo! Don.
