Coir

Coir Basket

If your mum, dad or partner is a real HARD CORE gardening nut, today I have some great Christmas gift ideas for you to give them.

If your relative grows orchids, bromeliads or Vireya rhododendrons, get them a compressed block of COIR.

Coir is made by chopping up the outer husk of coconuts. This soft, fibrous husk easily chops up into marble-sized lumps and it is every bit as good as peat moss when used in potting mixes.

You just cut open the bag and soak the coir block in a tub of water. In about an hour it will have become much larger, quite soft and quite wet as well.

Coir is spelt C-O-I-R and it is readily available from nurseries and hardware stores. It is the sort of product that all plant fanatics love.

Hooroo!
