Backyard Farm

Over the next few posts we are going to look at how to create a backyard farm. This is the way to keep your family happy and healthy.

The ideal backyard farm starts at the kitchen where you collect all fruit peelings and waste, stale bread, anything that was once alive. Edible waste goes to the chooks to eat. The rest goes to your compost heap for composting then it goes onto the vegie garden.

You can also grow your vegies in vertical gardens on walls.

The fruit is harvested and any gluts of produce (which occur about now) can be either stored or used to make jams, sauces, preserves etc.

Then you swap some of your fresh produce, preserves etc. with your neighbours or friends or relatives.

By now we are back in the kitchen where we began, to start the cycle all over again.

Kitchen to kitchen! Next time we’ll begin in the kitchen.

Hooroo, Don
