During their visit to Spain, the Burke’s Backyard team was impressed by hanging pots adorning the courtyard walls in even the smallest gardens. One of the drawbacks to using wall plantings to create a Spanish look in an Australian garden is the weight of a terracotta pot when it is filled with potting mix.

There is now a range of wall planters which look like terracotta but are actually plastic. They give the look of authentic Spanish pots on a wall without the weight. They are called Rustic Wall Planters and are made by Day 1 Pty Ltd as part of the ‘Envisions’ range. They can be used inside or outside.

The pots are attached by screws or nails to a wall. Indentations in the base of the pots can be punched out for drainage. Use the blunt end of a nail or hole punch to make the hole.

Rustic Wall Planters are available from nurseries and garden centres across Australia. They are also available from Bunnings Warehouse in Victoria and Mitre 10 in the southern regions (SA, TAS, VIC & WA).
