You often see horses smelling each other’s breath. This is the horses way of shaking hands – via an exchange of breath. You smell the horse’s breath & s/he smells yours. If you own a friendly, calm horse, you may want to “shake hands” with it in the same way.
WARNING: Don’t get too close to a horse which isn’t very friendly or which you don’t know trying to do this – horses can be dangerous animals.
