‘Burke’s Backyard’ recently visited Waldecks Kingsley Nursery in Perth, WA. Some of the innovations and plants available included:
Pansies in Plant-A-Pots – These are a six pack of plants growing in biodegradable pots of peat with a carry handle. There are many different varieties available of different colour combinations of blues or hotter colours like reds and yellows including ‘Watersun’ and ‘Midnight in Florence’. Simply plant the biodegradable pot straight into your garden. The Plant-A-Pots are only available from Waldecks Nurseries in Western Australia and Greengold Nurseries in NSW and ACT(details below). They cost $8.95-$12.95 and Waldecks Nurseries will donate 10 cents of each sale to help research into leukaemia and cancer in children.
Osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans) – One of the most fragrant of all flowering shrubs is osmanthus with a delightful scent of apricots from the tiny white flowers. It will grow as a tall shrub to 2.5-3m (8-10′) and likes protection from the summer sun. Osmanthus likes a well drained soil but will grow in virtually any situation. Available in 14cm (6″) or 20cm (8″) pots costing $9.95-$14.95 from nurseries throughout Australia.
