Jim Pike recently visited a retired artist, Lyn Pascalls who uses amongst other things aluminium cans as his canvas. He started his artwork after he retired as a structural engineer about 30 years ago.
Technique
Lyn cuts open the aluminium can and draws the design on the inside with a ball point pen. The pieces are joined together and moulded around the framework of a table, mirror, knight or Aztec plate. Some pieces involve a bit of carpentry as well as artistic flair. There is not one piece that is the same, they are all different because that’s the way Lyn likes his art. He does not sell any of his can art but enjoys his artistic hobbies and having something to do with his hands as well as producing something at the end.
