Timmy the Sheep

Timmy the Merino sheep was born a runt and his mother abandoned him. Carol and Graham Blaser took pity on the poor little lamb. They bottle-fed him around the clock, and wrapped him in sheepskin. Things took a turn for the worse when Timmy developed circulation problems. His back legs started bleeding, then his rear hooves dropped off. Carol and Graham contacted Lisa Dobbs, of Orthotics and Prosthetics SA. Lisa took casts of Timmy’s stumps then fitted him with a pair of foam-lined, white resin legs with rubber soles. Once fitted with his new legs, Timmy was able to run and jump like a normal sheep.

Timmy is now the mascot for Limb Kids SA, a non-profit voluntary organisation set up to provide on-going support for limb deficient children. He spends a lot of his time with support groups, and regularly visits schools to help people come to grips with a subject that Graham says has been ‘taboo’ for many years.
