Fringed Wattle

When wattles start to flower it’s a sure sign that spring is not too far away! Some of the wattles in Don’s garden are flowering now, including the fringed wattle (Acacia fimbriata). This is a bushy Australian native shrub or small tree which grows to around 7m (23′) tall. It has attractive, weeping foliage and yellow, perfumed, ball-shaped flowers in late winter and spring. Fringed wattles are hardy in most situations, and make excellent dense, screen plants. There is also a dwarf form available which is much more dense and shrubby than the species.

Availability and price

Plants in 140mm (6″) pots cost around $8, and are available at most native nurseries and some larger retail nurseries.
