Australian Native Violet

When developing a garden it is important to choose plants that are really reliable. Don looked at one of the classic groundcovers – the Australian native violet (Viola hederacea).

A native of eastern Australia and the Western Pacific Islands, this low-growing plant thrives in moist, shaded parts of the garden. It sometimes invades areas where it is not wanted, but it’s easy to control if necessary. The native violet has kidney-shaped leaves and produces nodding, lilac and white flowers for most of the year.
