Don’s Tips – Snakes

Snakes

Wildlife are behaving a bit differently this year. Most native bird species have gone to nest about 3-4 weeks earlier than normal, following the very warm winters in most areas.

This is fine since the insects that birds feed on are also around earlier this year. So there is plenty of food for the baby birds. Remember that even seed-eating and nectar-feeding birds raise their babies on a lot of insects.

Snakes and lizards are also out and about earlier this year, so care when lifting sheets of galvanized iron from piles and also take care with areas of rubbish. These are where snakes hide out.

Despite dire warnings about the grim future for wildlife due to global warming, most species in most areas may actually benefit from climate change.

So this should be a good year for wildlife around your place.

Hooroo! Don.
