Don’s Tips: More for the Kids

coloured carnations

A young girl looking at her dyed carnations.

Last time we mentioned some things to keep the kids amused over the January holidays that seem to drag on for a long time & leads to them getting very bored. Here are another few ideas to keep them busy and happy.

Changing flower colours to green or blue or yellow.

Get some cut flowers such as carnations from the florist. Put some food colouring into the water in the vase and the colour will be sucked into the flower over night.

A few tips though:

• only use very fresh flowers
• re-cut the ends of the flower stalks with a diagonal cut to ensure good colour take up.

Once the flowers are coloured put them into a clean vase with clear water. The food dyes do not shorten the life of the flowers by the way.
