Hi Melinda, I can sort of guess what you are getting at. Almost all soils sold in Sydney and Brisbane now are based on alluvial silt with compost etc added. After a year or two, the alluvial silts tend to perform quite badly – so I do not recommend them. Natural soils are not really sold any more, although you might be able to get some from swimming pool companies who excavate soils during pool construction. There will be some weed problems with these recycled soils, but these are easily managed. I make my own soils from crushed sandstone mixed with bulk compost in a ratio of two parts sandstone to one part compost. Don
