Don’s Tips: Tropical Plants Now

February is the last month of summer, so it’s your last month to safely plant tropical plants so that they can establish new roots prior to winter.

The tropical plants to plant now are:
Avocados
Bougainvilleas
Frangipanis
Angels’ trumpets
Mandevillas
Gardenias
Ixoras
Hawaiian hibiscus
Lychees
Allamandas
… & many more.

In cooler areas you particularly need to hurry up planting citrus, gardenias, bougainvilleas, passionfruit, hibiscus & palms.

Plant all of the warm climate plants now and water them in very well – then add some Seasol Super Soil Wetter to help them to establish new roots.

In cooler areas, try to select a warm position in the garden. A place where you have never seen frost on the ground. A sunny area that gets afternoon sun on the nearby masonry wall.

With care it’s amazing what tropical plants you can grow. I have seen frangipanis growing in Tasmania for instance.

Good luck & hooroo!
