Budd's Beach: Ansett Australia's Come and See My Garden

Burke's Backyard recently visited a fantastic Queensland home that makes great use of a small garden area to create a relaxing retreat. Situated on the Nerang River at Budd's Beach the landscape designer worked closely with the architect to create a harmonious house and garden. The subtropical garden provides a series of outdoor rooms that extends the ground floor living space around the pool and down to the river. The plants used are suited to the particular microclimates of sun or shade and salt exposure and include Golden Cane Palms (Chrysalidocarpus lutecens), Gardenias (Gardenia augusta), Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae) and even a Pandanus (Pandanus sp.) which is also known as Screw Pine because of its unusual growth habit with stilted roots.
