Cleaning Copper

Hi I have a old copper insert that used to be used to heat water it has quite a bit of soot on it i would like to clean and polish it any ideas on how to remove the soot?

hi barney, i'm a new member ,suanne. i have always used vinegar and cooking salt to clean copper items .sprinkle a little vinegar on the item and then some salt and rub in a circular way .wash off the vinegar and polish dry with a soft cloth .hope this helps you....suanne

The best way to clean copper is with vinegar and bi carb soda. Be sure to rinse with cold water afterwards. This is also good for cleaning stains on benches and carpets

Worstershire sauce cleans quite a few different surfaces.
