Quick & dirty base for a BBQ table

Posted 1046 days ago

Hi. I am looking to put a BBQ table (bulk seating with bolted-on seats like those you see in a pub) in my backyard. The right thing to do is to concrete/pave the base but I don't want to spend the money because eventually I will build a rumpus on the area (2 years time). I wonder if there is a quick, dirty & cheap way to prepare a base for the BBQ table. I was thinking of laying a few layers of tarp & place large paving clay tiles neatly on top. I don't mind if the base is not level so long as weeds won't grow through it. Would appreciate any better ideas. Cheers.

I dont think you will need a tarp underneath.
I did my own paving in my front yard with some reclaimed pavers when a friend re laid their pavers around their swimming pool.
All I did was cut out the ground about an inch deep in the space I wanted to lay them, flattened the ground and put the pavers in. I then filled in the gaps around the edge with some of the grass clods I dug up, so the pavers don't move. They can then be easily pulled back up again when I get sick of them.
The best advice I can give if you do it this way is : dig up all of the area first, if you do it in sections then the pavers arent going to be at the same height, then you get trip hazards.
