making use of a shipping container for storage etc? Posted 632 days ago We've just ordered a large shipping container to use partially for storage and partially for workshed. Has anyone had experience with converting one of these for the above purpose. Can windows be put into them and an electricity supply put through to them? The renovations are not urgent - just hoping there might be someone who would know what can be done. |

RE: making use of a shipping container for storage etc? Posted 628 days ago Hi 14theoze.I haven't personally done it,but I can offer some advice.Assuming you have bought the container outright, feel free to instal windows, but electricity supply MUST be council approved and obviously done by a SUITABLY qualified sparky. Please don't even think about running an extension lead in there!Huge potential problems, potential being the operative word.I'm not an electrician, but my father was.Hope I haven't frightened you.I just want to emphasise dont take any shortcuts when it comes to electricity. |

RE: making use of a shipping container for storage etc? Posted 497 days ago Good idea to paint with heat proof/sun reflective paint as they can get very warm inside. repeat hutcho* Use a ELectrician'. We placed ventilation inside to avoid hotbox effect and prevent mildew build up. |

RE: making use of a shipping container for storage etc? Posted 462 days ago We live in Vietnam and old 20ft shipping containers are often used as temporary site offices at construction sites. Sometimes they are even piled two one top to make mini " office towers"! They are equipped with windows (no problem) and are usually fully air conditioned. Being well familiar with dodgy electrics they are certainly done by "the wife's cousins boyfriend" - whilst that method is not advisable the point being that electicity is no problem. |
