Alternatives to concrete?

Posted 725 days ago

G'day everyone,
I am looking to put a parking space for my new boat down the side of the house. I have looked at concreting the space but that is going to expensive and an asphalt surface will get too hot.

I have seen somewhere on Backyard Blitz where a similar space used compacted road base. Would that be a viable alternative?

Does anyone have any other ideas for a solid and secure base for a space to park the boat.
Regards,
Koel

G'day Koel, if it's a grass area you could put down a layer of gravel, compact it down as able, the grass will grow through it and can be mowed above the gravel. It won't get slushy.

I had to do that in our paddock for the caravan, after bringing it home one very wet day and getting bogged.

There are also those hollow paving bricks that allow grass to grow through them, or you could lay down paving bricks or slabs, or put down a layer of crusher dust.

Cheapest and coolest option is gravel in the grass.

What about you level the space compact it then put down weed mat then lay some cheap slabs down and cement in between them. Would be cheaper than concrete.

Cheers.

Jim.

We used crushed rock for our driveway for years before we could afford to concrete it .It packed down like concrete and it wasn,t wasted as its the best base for concrete to go on so you don,t have to pay for a base when you want to concrete its already done its very strong and won,t move.

I would get rid of the grass as the moisture from the grass gets into the trailer and helps it rust
