Bamboo fence maintenance

Posted 787 days ago

Hi all.
We've just encased medium quality split bamboo in frames of treated timber and attached these frames to the existing fence. We've kept it about 6 cm off the ground to prevent rot. Some of the bamboo was discoloured but it cleaned up nicely with the pressure cleaner and a squirt of bleach. To keep it looking good would we be best to use an oil or varnish on it? Or perhaps leave it alone?
Thanks.

Bamboo isn't weather resistant so it'll fade and crack outdoors unless you apply protective layers of varnish to it. Browse your local hardware store for UV-resistant varnish, oil wouldn't be enough to protect it from the elements.

Thank you Hybrid. We expect ten years from the bamboo and where it is situated ( boxed in and attached to a fence and protected by an overhanging veranda roof) it should be ok.
