Squeaky floor Posted 864 days ago Our house is highset with a composite floor( I call it a weetbix floor ) & since it is so dry & the house has moved, ground is cracked, the floor in the kitchen squeaks quite a bit. We had a look & a seam runs across there & apart from lifting the floor covering up to renail it we are not sure what to do. When it rains again the house will move a bit & maybe it will fix itself but is there anything we can do? |

RE: Squeaky floor Posted 862 days ago We fixed the floor by spraying the seam liberally with WD40, no more squeak. |

RE: Squeaky floor Posted 859 days ago I heard that talcum powder also works, sprinkled on the joins. |

RE: Squeaky floor Posted 857 days ago We had the same problem for almost 30 years, thought we would have been used to the creaking floor boards, but just drove us crazier year after year. |

RE: Squeaky floor Posted 835 days ago I am presuming that the seam is not on a floor joist and thus not supported causing the squeak. Under the floor glue a block to the side of the floor joist and the underneath of the floor where it is moving, use a good quality wood glue, you could weight the floor to force it down onto the block. |

RE: Squeaky floor Posted 809 days ago Sometimes nails hammered between boards stop squeaking, pouring little bit of oil, or melted wax mixed with oil and as mentioned other remedies above. All depends on what we’ve got. If offending floor is covered with carpet, lino, if we have access to underside or not. |
