Living fence post

Posted 156 days ago

I have a med height adult lilly pilly in my front yard- right on the fence line and I need to put up a fence. We have chosen a colorbond fence, is there any way of salvaging this beautiful tree? or do I have to cut it down.

I would like to keep it, however if it does get chopped there are 2 seedlings growing underneath in a better placement.

I guess if you really want it you will find a way to keep it.
Are you definate you want a colour bond fence?
if you could put up a wire fence along side it will be a bit more forgiving.
If you put the c/b fence too close, the tree might still grow a bit wider even if its at its max height and it will damage your fence.

If you choose to cut it down and let the sapling grow, you will be able to have both the fence and the tree, and you will have the joy of wathcing it grow up.

Nothing to lose trying to replant it. I would treat it with seasol a week or two before replanting, trim the folliage back and when digging out try to get as much of the root ball as possible. Soak in Seasol before replanting.

Thank you Ausfirm, but I don't think I have the resorces to move it, it is about 4m tall and the trunk is about the same width as me. Ive got about 2 months before the fence go's in, Im still considering a different fence around it.
