Replacing garden bed

Posted 646 days ago

I'm commencing a DIY landscaping job at our new home. First job is to get rid of the exisiting lawn (which is now dead) at the edges of the yard to make way for what will be a garden bed about 600 - 900mm wide behind a retaining wall.

Can anyone suggest whether it is best to take away all the existing soil (down to a depth of, say 200mm) including remnants of lawn, or just take out the lawn roots, etc? The soil looks like pretty loamy, good soil.

Thanks.
