Building a Floating Deck

Posted 114 days ago

Hi everyone,

This is a very popular method for building a great looking deck in the USA and I wanted to see if anyone has built a deck using a similar method here in Australia.

The term used is a Floating Foundation or Floating Deck using a block called a Handi Block (www.handiblock.com.au). The blocks themselves are very lightweight (3 times lighter than concrete) however they are very strong. Essentially it takes away the back breaking job of digging holes and then having to mix and pour concrete into the holes and waiting for it to cure.

A big draw card to this type of construction is the ability to complete quite a large job in a short amount of time e.g. same day as buying the timber and the blocks. Also there is no wood rot or termites to worry about as the entire structure is elevated.

Would love to hear your feedback and if anyone has had any experience here in Australia with this system.
